Mission Work
The Central Youth Ministry believes that it is our responsibility, as commissioned believers, to serve the world both domestically and abroad. We therefore take opportunities each year to provide for the physical needs of the less fortunate while teaching them about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The goal of this trip to Ghana was primarily to work with the church at Tongo (Upper East Region) in an
effort to establish an on-going presence in the area which will eventually enable the Central Church of Christ to meet the physical and spiritual needs of residents with a focus upon children. Tongo is a small town in the northernmost section of Ghana, near Bolgatanga, with impoverished citizens who depend mostly on their own crops for sustenance. During the dry season, food banks run low and people in the region sometimes must go without even the most basic of necessities.
The mission team flew from Nashville to New York and then from New York to Accra, the Ghanaian
capital. Once in Accra, some combination of air and ground transport will be used to get the entire group to Kumasi and eventually to Bolgatanga. Lodging was in the Serra Lodge in Bolgatanga. We based our operation there and traveled each day to and from Tongo. Travel in Ghana is much different than in the United States. Air transport in country took place in a 20 passenger prop plane while ground transport took place on roads which are dangerous due to overcrowding, overloading, and poor infrastructure.
Team members were expected to contribute in one or more area of work, which include but are not limited to medical clinics, vacation Bible schools, seminars, worship services, and construction projects. There are many different jobs involved with each area of work. For a full itinerary, click here.
Second Target: Murphy, NC
Dates: July 18-22, 2009
Cost: TBA
The CYM teamed up with two other youth ministries to help improve the homes of residents of this town in the western part of North Carolina in conjunction with the local church effort to teach the Gospel. Please take a few minutes to read the letter we received from the Murphy Church of Christ after the trip in 2008.
